sweet, salty, sour, bitter and hot deliciousness. I was first introduced to chamoy in tucson, az. at first I was put off by it’s aggressive, no-holds barred flavor profile, but after discovering a sublime mango/chamoy popsicle at a magical paleteria in denver, co, I was hooked. last night I did my best to recreate that popsicle and it was delicious! stay tuned to find out what else you can do with chamoy.
sliced open a ripe tomato this morning and was amazed at how gorgeous it was. I guess they’re right: beauty is on the inside!
I am the proud father of a brood of melons! every morning and every afternoon I spend some time with my melon pants, checking for female flowers and, when I find them, pollinating them. this is my firstborn! he’s growing rapidly and thankfully he’s already potty trained. I’ve already counted six other melons hidden among the leaves and vines and there will be many more in the next few weeks! octomom eat your heart out.
just so you know, the combination of terrible corn chips, canned cheese, and bbq sauce is remarkably gross and delicious!
today’s haul: purple beans, green brands, broccoli shoots, beets, turnips, scallions, chard, kale, and collards. freshest stir fry ever tonight.
if we were lucky, our childhood birthdays were not marked by parties or presents, but by my auntie nanay’s chiffon cake and butter cream frosting. sometimes my mom made it, sometimes my auntie made it, but regardless, it is one of my fondest memories of childhood. these cupcakes are a departure from that classic recipe in that a) they are cupcakes and b) they are ginger chiffon instead of vanilla. if they are one-tenth as good as my memories, I will count that as an unqualified success.
willpower lasted til about 3:20. and then boom!
had an extra pie crust lying around, so I decided to make a coconut cream and white chocolate pie. and as if in gratitude, the universe made it rain for the first time in months.
